Nourish & Protect™ Tinted Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50
Nourish & Protect™ Tinted Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50
20% Zinc Oxide • Antioxidant Protection • Buildable Tint • Matte Finish
There’s a reason Nourish & Protect™ has remained one of my most-recommended sunscreens—and a patient favorite—for more than a decade.
This broad-spectrum SPF 50 tinted mineral sunscreen combines 20% zinc oxide with titanium dioxide for mineral UVA/UVB protection, while a powerful blend of antioxidants and skin-supportive ingredients - including vitamin C, green tea polyphenols, resveratrol, CoQ10, vitamin E, emblica and Centella asiatica - helps support skin exposed to daily environmental stress.
The soft, disappearing formula blends easily into the skin, helps control excess shine and leaves a smooth, matte finish with buildable coverage. The universal tint helps visually blur redness, blemishes, pores and uneven tone without the heavy feel of traditional foundation.
I especially love it for acne-prone, oily, combination, redness-prone and hyperpigmentation-prone skin.
For many of my acne patients, this is the sunscreen I recommend in place of makeup.
Why I Recommend It
The best sunscreen isn't simply the one with the highest number on the bottle. It's the one that provides appropriate broad-spectrum protection and that you'll actually apply generously and consistently.
Nourish & Protect checks both boxes.
Its 20% zinc oxide mineral base provides broad-spectrum photoprotection, while the elegant formulation addresses one of my biggest complaints about traditional mineral sunscreens: they're often thick, greasy, chalky or difficult to blend.
This one isn't.
It spreads beautifully, disappears into the skin and dries down to a soft, mattifying finish. The tint provides enough coverage to visibly even the complexion while still looking like skin.
I've personally used and recommended this formula for years. Even after trying countless sunscreens, it's one I continue to come back to - and my patients do too.
The 20% Zinc Oxide Difference
Zinc oxide is a broad-spectrum mineral UV filter that provides protection across both UVA and UVB wavelengths.
I teach my patients to look beyond SPF alone. SPF is important and reflects standardized testing of the finished sunscreen, but it doesn't tell the entire story. There are SPF 100 formulations that are ineffective. As long as SPF is over 30, it’s the concentration of the minerals that will tell you more about the efficacy of the product. I also consider broad-spectrum coverage, the UV filters being used, the overall formulation, and whether the product is comfortable enough to use correctly every day.
Nourish & Protect contains 20% zinc oxide plus titanium dioxide in a broad-spectrum SPF 50 formulation.
A Mineral Sunscreen for Acne-Prone Skin
This is where Nourish & Protect really earns its place in my skincare lineup.
Acne patients often need diligent photoprotection, particularly when they're using retinoids, AHAs or other active skincare products. Sun exposure can also make post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and post-acne marks more noticeable and persistent.
But many acne-prone patients understandably don't want sunscreen + primer + concealer + foundation sitting on their skin every morning.
I often recommend Nourish & Protect in place of makeup.
Its universal tint provides buildable coverage that helps visually soften:
Redness and active blemishes
Post-acne marks
Uneven pigmentation
Visible pores
Fine lines and minor imperfections
Excess shine
Apply an adequate layer for sun protection first, allow it to set, and then build additional coverage only where you want it.
You get SPF 50 mineral protection + complexion coverage + a matte finish without needing another heavy layer.
Antioxidant Skincare Built Into Your SPF
UV protection is the priority, but I love that the formula doesn't stop there.
Nourish & Protect incorporates several well-established antioxidant and skin-supportive ingredients to complement its mineral UV filters.
Key Ingredients
Zinc Oxide 20%
A broad-spectrum mineral UV filter providing protection across UVA and UVB wavelengths. It is also generally well suited to sensitive and acne-prone skincare routines.
Titanium Dioxide
A second mineral UV filter that complements zinc oxide as part of the formula's broad-spectrum photoprotection.
Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C)
A topical antioxidant with evidence supporting protection against oxidative stress and a role in improving the appearance of photoaging and uneven pigmentation. It complements—but never replaces—sunscreen.
Green Tea Polyphenols
Rich in antioxidant polyphenols that have been studied for their anti-inflammatory and photoprotective properties when used topically. Another reason I particularly like this formula for environmentally stressed and redness-prone skin.
Resveratrol
A plant-derived polyphenol with potent antioxidant activity that helps defend against oxidative stress generated by environmental exposures.
Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10)
A naturally occurring antioxidant involved in cellular energy production. Topical CoQ10 has been investigated for supporting the skin's antioxidant defenses and addressing visible signs associated with photoaging.
Emblica (Indian Gooseberry/Amla)
A botanical source of antioxidant compounds incorporated into skincare formulations for antioxidant and skin-brightening support—particularly appropriate in a formula designed for uneven, sun-exposed skin.
Centella Asiatica
One of my favorite botanical skincare ingredients. Centella contains bioactive triterpenes and is widely used for its soothing, skin-supportive and barrier-supporting properties, making it especially appealing for reactive or environmentally stressed skin.
Vitamin E
A lipid-soluble antioxidant naturally present in the skin that complements the formula's broader antioxidant system.
Ceramides + Phospholipids
Skin-supportive lipids that help condition the skin and support hydration and barrier function—important because sun protection shouldn't leave the skin feeling stripped or uncomfortable.
Biotin
Included as part of the formula's skin-conditioning complex.
For Hyperpigmentation & Uneven Skin Tone
If you're spending money on products for dark spots, post-acne hyperpigmentation or uneven skin tone, sunscreen isn't optional—it's part of the treatment strategy.
UV exposure can stimulate melanogenesis and contribute to persistent pigmentation. Consistent broad-spectrum photoprotection helps protect the progress you're trying to make with ingredients such as niacinamide, retinoids, vitamin C and other pigment-correcting products.
Nourish & Protect gives you that protection while its tinted, buildable coverage immediately makes discoloration look less noticeable.
The formula's vitamin C, green tea, emblica, resveratrol and vitamin E also provide complementary antioxidant support.
Great For
Acne-prone skin
Oily and combination skin
Hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone
Post-acne marks and PIH
Redness-prone skin
Mature and photodamaged skin
People using retinoids or exfoliating acids
Anyone who dislikes greasy sunscreen
People who prefer a matte finish
Tinted sunscreen instead of foundation
Daily mineral sun protection
Free of: Oil • Fragrance • Parabens
How to Use
Apply generously as the final step of your morning skincare routine, before makeup if additional makeup is desired.
For complexion coverage, first apply enough product to achieve appropriate sun protection and distribute it evenly over the face, ears, neck and other exposed areas. Allow it to set, then build additional product over areas where you'd like more coverage.
Reapply at least every two hours during ongoing sun exposure and after swimming, sweating or toweling, according to the product's Drug Facts directions.
Nicole's Skin Tip
Let your sunscreen do more than one job.
For acne-prone or oily skin, I love simplifying the morning routine. Rather than layering sunscreen underneath heavy complexion products, try Nourish & Protect as your complexion product.
Apply your full sunscreen layer first, let it set, then add a little more wherever you want additional coverage.
You get a matte, more even-looking complexion while keeping broad-spectrum mineral protection front and center.
And don't stop at your jawline: extend your SPF to the neck, upper chest and backs of your hands, where cumulative sun exposure often becomes visible over time.
