For years, I struggled with deciding how to treat pregnant or pediatric patients with moderate to severe acne for whom I knew better than to prescribe an antibiotic. Our overuse of antibiotics is just one of the variables contributing to neuropsychiatric disease and autoimmune conditions so I prescribe them as a last resort.
